A major development in Mwenge North’s political scene: the sitting MP has stepped back from the race, signaling a move toward unity and cohesion within the constituency.
Incumbent Member of Parliament David Muhumuza has formally withdrawn from contesting the Mwenge North seat in Kyenjojo District. He announced the decision in a letter dated December 9, 2025, sent to the District Registrar of the Independent Electoral Commission in Kyenjojo.
In his message, Muhumuza stated that the withdrawal was made “for the unity, cohesion and harmony of my Constituency and region at large.” He stressed that the decision was voluntary and free of any pressure, duress, or influence from outside the party or other actors.
The withdrawal letter has been forwarded to the Returning Officer of the Electoral Commission for the appropriate administrative action.
Analysts expect Muhumuza’s departure to clear the way for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate, Lawrence Akuguzibwe, in the Mwenge North County parliamentary race.
The document bears witness signatures from Byamukama Posiano and Tumwesigye Tumbu alongside Muhumuza, confirming the agreement and the formal nature of the withdrawal.
What this shift means for voters—and how it might influence the campaign dynamics and party strategy—remains a topic of discussion. Do you think unifying moves like this help or hinder electoral competition? Share your thoughts in the comments.
